I decided to start looking at the more professional of the social networking sites. Last Night I looked at webjunction. I was totally amazed at all the library information in one place. If I were working in a public library, this would be an invaluable resource. As an elementary librarian trying to get end of the year school chores done I think there is more information there than I have time to keep track of at this time.
LinkedIn was interesting to look at. Its blog had many good tips on find a job. I can see where this would be a very useful resource for professionals to network and keep up on new developments in the business world. Again, I think this site would take more commitment than I have the time or energy for at this time of year. As far as learning about social networking, both these sites would be a bit of info overload for me at this time of year.
Tomorrow I will continue my exploration of social networking sites. I am somewhat familiar with Ning as I am following a ning site and have a page on a TILT site. I will compare that to facebook and probable set up an account on one of them. My Space sounds like a site for a younger crowd-though I may look at it also, as I work with kids and they tend to know about My Space.

You've been exploring a lot! Pretty much every "expert" out there on social networking will recommend that you only choose as many sites as you can reasonably keep up with, and really put your energy into keeping those updated and participating in those particular communities. Far better than having a toe in everything, but getting bogged down trying to keep up a presence everywhere.
